A Little Trivia from Californication

The series revolves around Hank Moody, a charming ladies' man of a writer and novelist plagued by personal demons. He blames his years-long case of writer's block on a variety of reasons, ranging from the hedonism of Los Angeles, to his girlfriend Karen leaving him. Hank constantly deals with the consequences of his lack of will to say "no" to available drugs, sex and alcohol, while trying to show his family that he can be a good, responsible caring father to Becca and a monogamous partner to Karen.

But with lack of book sales force Hank into teaching at a Los Angeles university. Will he be able to keep it together while guiding the next generation of scribes? Californication is created by Tom Kapinos and executive produced by Kapinos, Duchovny and Gina Fattore.

The titles of Hank's novels named in the show are taken from American thrash metal band Slayer's albums. These are: South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss, and of course the main novel in the show, God Hates Us All. Charlie also stated that the bathroom of his house was the only place that had been spared of he and Marcy's "Unholy Alliance", or the only place they had not had sex. Unholy Alliance was the name of a tour by Slayer. Twice in the first season, the wait for Hank's new novel is compared to the wait for the latest Guns 'N Roses album, Chinese Democracy, which took over a decade to be released.

The music of Warren Zevon also plays a significant role in the series. Many of his songs appear in the show, including "Mohammed's Radio", "My Shit's Fucked Up", and "Keep Me in Your Heart". Steve Earle's cover of "Reconsider Me" makes an appearance, as does "Don't Let Us Get Sick", as performed by Becca Moody's band. There are also nods to Zevon's music in the characters' dialogue, including the phrases "life'll kill ya", "porcelain monkey" and "excitable boy". In Season 2, Hank Moody describes his ritual for finishing a book as "whiskey, weed, and Warren Zevon." Also, in the Season 3 finale, the GG Allin version of "Carmelita" plays in the opening scene.

Harry Chapin is also referenced in Season Three. Episode three is titled "Verities and Balderdash" which was the title of a Chapin album. The tenth episode is entitled "Dogtown" which was the title of a Chapin song.

The longest running rock music reference on the show is more subtle. In Season One, Episode One, Hank had his headlight knocked out by a jealous husband wielding a baseball bat. The reference is to the Wallflowers hit song "One Headlight." Hank Moody still drives home with one headlight.

Valentine's Day Trivia & Party Games

Valentines Day party games and activities using the history of Valentines keeps with the party theme. Use the below information to create trivia questions, word find and scramble games.

Valentine was a priest who served during the 3rd century. February has long been a month of romance. February 14 was a day dedicated to the Roman Goddess Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The celebration featured a lottery in which young men would draw the names of teenage girls from a box. The girl assigned to each young man in that manner would be his companion during the remaining year.

Saint Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families; he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine thought this degree injustice. He defied the emperor and performed marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, the Emperor ordered that he be put to death. Valentine sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine had a platonic love for the jailer’s daughterwho visited him often during his confinement. Before his death, it is said he wrote her a letter, which he signed “From your Valentine,” an expression we still use today. Cupid, another symbol of the holiday, became associated with it because he was the son of Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Cupid often appears on Valentine cards. If Cupid shoots you with his arrow you’re sure to fall head-over-heels in love.

Try this fun Valentines Day party game:

THE CHOPSTICK IN THE HOLE: With a chopstick tied to each guys waist and hands behind his back, they try to put the chopstick into a whole (can be a paper cup). A more mature version would be to tie the cup to a female participant.

Roulette Trivia

The Great British Pub Quiz and the American show Jeopardy have a lot to answer for - they are both responsible for the retaining of highly useless yet highly interesting bits of trivia; information that you would never need in normal life. However, which of us haven't at some point uttered the words, “well, it'll come in useful for a pub quiz”, or something akin to that. It is for this reason solely that I have chosen to pick a few of my favorite pieces or roulette trivia to share with you - use them wisely.

Did you know that the roulette wheel was invented by the French inventor Blaise Pascal. Pascal was actually trying to create a perpetual movement machine, but ended up with the roulette wheel - not a bad rap.

The double 00 position found on American Roulette Wheels were added only when roulette found its way to the United States of America. Previous to this the wheel only had the single 0 position, but the American casino owners didn't feel that the house had enough of an edge with this and so added the extra position.

The chap that added the original one 0 position was named Francois Blanc; he was also responsible for setting up the first casino in Monte Carlo. It was rumored that in order to learn the secrets of roulette Mr. Blanc actually made a pact with the devil. The evidence lies in the wheel itself: If you add all the numbers of the board together you come to the sum of the devil, 666.

Row 5 is the worst row to bet on; statistically speaking row 5 is the least likely row to win.

One of the most impressive recent wins was by an English man called Ashley Revel who sold everything he owned in 2004 and went to a Las Vegas Casino. He put down the sum of all of his possessions, $135, 300, on a double or nothing bet. He bet on red, and red came in - he left with double his money!

Also in 2004, a group of 3 were accused of winning over 1,000,000 GBP by illegal measures in a London casino. The casino charged the group with using mobile phone and laser technology in order to predict the falling of the ball. The case was taken to court and the casino lost - the group kept all of their winnings.

Einstein apparently commented that “you can't beat a roulette table unless you steal from it”.

Roulette has played a part in many a flick, the most famous of which being James Bond's 'Diamonds are Forever', and of course Casablanca where we found our hero, Rick, fixing the wheel for a destitute client to win big and be able to escape to America.

Hiphop Music Rumours & Trivia

As every good thing is either inspired or stolen, Hiphop is also not an original music style but goes with the former one. Rap music inspired this form of music and also resulted into birth of many sub-genres, now emerging into successful industries. It is also said that Reggae was the root for hip-hop rather then the reverse.

There are many stories about this style being given the name hip hop. It is said that the term "hiphop" was first coined in 1974 by MC Lovebug Starski and it was also used by by Black Spades from the legendary Afrika Bambaata gang. Other story says that this slang was first used in The SugarHill Gang's song "Rapper's delight" and some argue Space Cowboy coined the term. The list is further joined by William Stern Sara and Keith "Cowboy" Wiggins, an original member of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

Even the invention of "scratching" technique has an interesting story behind it. Grandmaster Theodore, circa 1977, was in his bedroom playing records when his mother scolded him for the volume, and in order to pause the record, he mistakenly moved it back and forth which made a scratching noise. He then developed the technique and played it in parties which became very famous.

Even the hip-hop dance which developed with hip hop music and graffiti, is said to be influenced by Angola's African dance Capoeira and New York dance styles of Salsa or bombi plena by latin communities.

This music style is also a lingo alongwith being a culture which reflects the empowerment of the black community. It also has many interesting facts and trivias which may be spread as rumours.

It is said that rap moghul Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes studied in the same school and once fought in the hallway; even Rass Kass and Snoop fought in school; and Prodigy and Havoc also attended the same High school. To add to the story, Snoop Dogg has gone to school with Cameron Diaz.

There are also some rumours about the artists not belonging to the place they claim as their native. It is said that Eminem is not from Detroit but from Warren Michigan and that DOC and DJ Premier are not from NY but from Dallas, Texas. It is also gossiped that UGK is not from Houston but from Port Arthur Texas and MF Doom is originally from London, England.

The list of rumours, gossips and trivias in Hip hop is never-ending. The globalization of hiphop into different cultures of the world has made it reach every nook and corner of the world. Indeed, Hip-hop has globalized in true sense.

Asides from Rapunzel, Jasmine sports the longest hair amongst the Disney princess characters.

Despite all being princesses, only Aurora gets to wear a tiara in her normal princess outfit.

Cinderella gets to wear the most beautiful pair of shoes in her story, which are glass slippers.

While their villains are more known for their characters, only Snow White's stepmother and villain is known to have her own castle.

The Facts on the Apocalypse 2012 Book

It is best that people not ignore any possible cause of problems be it small or big most especially if it concerns the whole world itself. As every single day passes, the world undergoes change. It may not be that noticeable but in reality, every single modification can affect the lives of all the living creatures here on the planet Earth... One of the prime concerns of this time is the about the Apocalypse 2012 Book that states that the world may truly be nearing its end in just a matter of time.

The ancient people that once roamed the Earth, more specifically the ancient and now extinct Mayan civilization depicted that the world shall crumble into ashes in the year 2012. They created a calendar known as the "Long Run". In it, a date that intrigued every philosopher, scientists, and historians marked everyone's calendars as well. Written in the calendar of the Mayan people was that in the 21st day of the last month which is December in the year 2012, something explosive, destructive, and devastating will fall upon the Earth. And ever since that prediction, numerous accounts, researches, and studies took place. One of the most significant however was the apocalypse 2012 book that captured the minds and sparked the interest of many people.

The book contained information about a recently revealed planet seen lurking on the outskirts of the solar system. Astronomers named this unknown planet as planet X. It was first considered as a "non-threatening" planet but it was soon concluded that as it approached the inner areas of he solar system, a possibility existed that it could crash into the Earth's atmosphere bringing about a great collision that shall end the lives of almost half of Earth's human population and even an entire species of animals. They were able to discover this planet with the help of their high-technology gadgets and laboratories fully equipped with infrared capabilities that aided their quest to find out more about this mysterious planet that could possibly be the cause of everyone's demise somewhere in the near future.

In this book, several signs or signals were stated that shall help everyone be aware of the coming apocalypse or end of the world. The signs include the occurrence of natural disasters including high tides, deluges, destructive earthquakes and more. Also, stated within this book was that there would be national and international conflicts and wars that shall trigger another world war.

These are just some of the negative consequences that the Mayan predicted year 2012 holds for the planet Earth. To this date, the intellectuals are currently conducting numerous researches and studies in order to determine if there really is a connection with the discovery of planet X and the apocalypse foretold in the early times. For the mean time, it is best that we do our best in helping to preserve what we have now for as long as possible for the sake of every living thing's future here on Earth.
