According to the Guiness World Records, the world's tallest man alive is "Xi Shun."
"Xi Shun (China, b. 1951), measured 7 ft 8.95 in (2 m 36.1 cm) based on the measurements taken on January 15, 2005, at Chifeng City Hospital, Inner Mongolia, China."
Xi Shun is a resident of Inner Mongolia and is since January 15, 2005 recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the world's tallest living man.
Xi Shun claims to have been of normal height until he was 16 years old when he experienced a growth spurt for unknown reasons. Xi Shun reached his present height seven years later.
Xi Shun was in the army before returning to Inner Mongolia where he works as a herdsman. Xi Shun does not have a known growth disorder — unlike the tallest man ever, Robert Wadlow, and the tallest living man claimants, Leonid Stadnyk and Ajaz Ahmed. Stadnik and Ahmed claim a height of 8 ft 4 in (254 cm), but their claims are controversial and not currently accepted by Guinness.
