Volkswagen is a highly successful German automotive manufacturer that is also known as Volkswagen Group or “VW”. It is based in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany and it is the pioneer brand of the Volkswagen group. It contains the car brands Bentley Motors Limited, Audi Ag, Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S., SEAT, Skoda Auto, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A., and heavy good manufacturer Scania AB. Additionally, the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen has endorsed the production of an integrated automotive group with Porsche that will be led by Volkswagen. 1. The word “Volkswagen” means “people’s car” in German.

2. The idea for the Beetle was inspired by Adolph Hitler.

6. The Volkswagen Passat is simply a version of the Audi 80, built with identical mechanical and body parts.

7. In the United States and Canada, the Golf is known as the Volkswagen Rabbit and in Mexico it is known as the Volkswagen Caribe.

8. The third-generation Golf was recognized as the European Car of the Year in 1992.

9. Volkswagen hopes to sell 800,000 cars a year and to introduce the new Polo before 2011.

10. In 2007, Volkswagen sold more than 5,000,0000 cars in over 100 countries.

As you can see, Volkswagen has become increasingly more popular, especially in the United States. In November of 2009, it was officially announced that Volkswagen-Porsche overtook Toyota, making the world’s largest car manufacturer in terms of production.
